I was planning to start my blog with a funny story about my first day in yoga class or my thoughts about the French pastry shop that I've been wanting to try. Instead, my first blog post comes just hours after learning that my grandfather has passed away after years of battling Alzheimer's. In his honor, my first blog post now considers life and how we live it.
When you hear the word "life" what is the first thought that pops into your mind? Is it your responsibilities? your bills? your job? your family? To most, this is life.
Everyday, billions of people follow the same routines, drive the same routes to work and school, eat the same limited recipes, and watch the same few shows. Everyday, billions of people miss the beauty that surrounds them because they are so consumed with what their friends are posting on social media or what famous designer some celebrity is wearing. So many of us miss the beauty of a flower blooming or the sun rising to light the morning sky. When was the last time you saw a rainbow after an afternoon shower? Do you truly enjoy the time you spend with your friends and family? Do you treasure the time you get with your kids? Or are you rushing to get to the next event or activity?
We live in an age where technology allows us to connect to people all across the globe. We can now send robots to the depths of the Mariana trench and we can safely land them on Mars. We can learn almost any language, find new recipes, and watch videos of archaeologists unearthing our civilization's histories. But the more advanced our technology becomes, the more disconnected we become from each other and nature. Can we adapt? Should we adapt? At what point do we get fed up with this life and go live in the mountains of Nepal?
As I'm writing this, I keep telling myself that I am going to do better. I'm going to make the effort to notice all of life's little miracles that happen everyday. I will stop rushing through each day without seeing at least one thing that I think is beautiful.......As I'm writing this, I also acknowledge that I am human and that I live a busy life. Lofty goals are nice, but not realistic. So, my journey will start with me committing to finding one beautiful thing in our world each week, and sharing it.
I hope that by sharing, I will also inspire you to look for one beautiful thing each week and share it. Close your eyes and imagine a place where everyday you are reminded of the beauty out there. Imagine a place for you to visit when you need a pick me up throughout your day. Join me as I share life's beauty.
